Karunaratne Weerasooriya runs Serene Lake. He know a wealth of folk lore and the stories of the temples around the lagoon. He is adept at guiding the large outrigger canoes around the lagoon.

Somipala, is deep sea fisherman adept at paddling outrigger canoes. He lives nearby and we often request his help to paddle around the lagoon.
  D.G. Nimal has been associated with the Tourist Industry, for over 15 years. He has been a tourist guide and Restaurantier over the last few years. Nimal can communicate in either English or German. He has been is married for over 16 years and has two children. (Nimal passed away in 2006)
Sunil Abeyweera Gunawardane was the former part owner of the property of Serene Lake Village and lives nearby. Sunil has been responsible for all of the engineering and construction using traditional packed earth (adobe) and rammed earth techniques to build the Serene Lake cabanas and restaurant. He can make himself understood in English. You can contact him for your construction needs at 0777-911014.
Chandare is one of the characters of the Lagoon. Fairly conversant in English he knows the the ecology and every corner of the Lagoon. He is one of the few people around the area who would willing to demonstrate how shrimp are harvested from the shrimp traps. Quite a liberal thinker who has travelled the whole sub continent.

Ruwan is an artist who lives within a pleasant 5 minute ride from Serene Lake. Ruwan has a flair for seeing the potential of pieces of wood that he picks up from the bottom of the lake. With a few deft strokes he can turn this piece of driftwood into an work of art. Unhappily like many artists and Sri Lankans he does indulge in excess the cup that cheers. In Ruwans defense, it could be said that it does cheer him up.

Jayalath is responsible for organizing and leading the raft trips down the Gin Ganga. He is a strong swimmer, and while in the Sri Lankan navy has learned life saving techniques.
 Karunatilleke is the Grama Sevaka (village headman). He also a character in that he is very passionate about ecological conservation and preservation. A teetotaller, a rareity in Sri Lanka he spends much of his spare time tending his vegetable plot. A vist to Karunatillekes vegetable plot can be made by boat.
